On
December 23, 2016 an opening of exhibition of graphic works “By cutter and
brush” of a famous Ukrainian artist, Merited Cultural Worker of Ukraine V.Khvorost
(1936-2014) took place in O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum. The exhibition was dedicated
to the 80th anniversary of the artist and organized on the artist’s son, head of
Kirovohrad regional organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine A.Khvorost
initiative. A.Khvorost told about life and creative work of his son and presented a
catalogue “Vasyl Khvorost. Graphic works”.
V.Khvorost was born on December 12, 1936 in Rostov region (Russia). After
graduating from Lviv Polygraphical Institute named after I.Fedorov, now Ukrainian Academy
of Printing, in 1967 stayed in Ukraine and had been living in Dnepropetrovsk. Was actively
involved in creative work and pedagogical activity. Was a lecturer in special subjects and
director of Dnepropetrovsk State Art College named after Ye.Vuchetych, now higher
educational establishment “Dnepropetrovsk College of Theatre and Art” (1983-1988). Was
one of the founders and heads of Regional Club of ex-libris and graphics “Kobzar” in
Dnepropetrovsk (1978-2014).Had been a leading artistic editor in All-Ukrainian state
publishing house “Sich” (Dnepropetrovsk) for many years. Designed and made
illustrations for nearly 400 books. Participant of republican, all-USSR.All-Ukrainian,
international, foreign art exhibitions. Successfully exhibited his works in Ukraine,
Russia, Lithuania, Germany. Works are kept in many museums, private galleries in Ukraine
and abroad.
More than 70 graphic works of different years (from the 1960s to 2000th) of
Merited Cultural Worker of Ukraine V.Khvorost are presented at commemorative exhibition in
the museum. Among them are linocuts from the series: “Kyiv-1500”, “Hetmans of
Ukraine”, “Cossacks kin will never die”, “My contemporaries”, “Pushkin in
Katerynoslav”, etchings, watercolours, numerous ex-libris, dedicated to cultural workers
and workers of art, and also books designed and illustrated by the artist.
A graduate of Dnepropetrovsk State Art College named after Ye.Vuchetych,
Merited Artist of Ukraine A.Nadezhdin shared his reminiscences about V.Khvorost during the
exhibition opening.
Artists, writers, pedagogues and students of Art and Graphic Faculty of the
Art Department of Kirovohrad State Pedagogical University named after V.Vynnychenko viewed
the unique exhibition of V.Khvorost’s ex-libris and linocuts with great interest. |
