An exhibition of the famous Kropyvnytskyi artists Serhii Shapovalov, Merited Artist of
Ukraine, and Anatolii Shapovalov, a member of the National Union of Artists
of Ukraine, was presented within the events dedicated to Town Day. The artists were
awarded the honorary distinction “Of Merit” of the 2nd degree of the City Council of
Kropyvnytskyi on the occasion of the 265th anniversary of Kropyvnytskyi.
Shapovalov Serhii Havrylovych was born on May 15,
1943, in the village of Inhulo-Kamianka, Novhorodkivka district, Kirovohrad region.
Graduated from Kyiv State Art Institute, now the National Academy of Fine Art and
Architecture, specialization Painting (1974), pedagogues – People’s Artists of Ukraine
T.M.Holembiievska and V.V.Shatalin.
Worked as a painter in Kirovohrad Art and Industrial Studios of the Art
Fund of Ukrainian SSR (1974-1989). A member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine
(1989). A laureate of the Regional Award in Fine Art and Study of Art named after
Oleksandr Osmerkin in the nomination “national tradition” (2006). In 2008 was honored
with the title of “Merited Artist of Ukraine”. In 2011 was represented at the Town
Board of Honor in the nomination “The best Worker of Culture”.
Exhibiting activity began in 1981. A participant of numerous town,
regional, all-Ukrainian, and foreign exhibitions – all-Ukrainian art exhibition
“Picturesque Ukraine” (1986-2019), all-Ukrainian art exhibition “Our time – our
space” (2008), International biennale “Impreza-89” Ivano-Frankivsk, art exhibition
“New York. Inter-EXPO 2002” the USA, art exhibition “Russian house” Berlin,
Germany (2002), art exhibition “Art of Ukraine” Moscow, Russia (2002). Personal
exhibitions: in Kropyvnytskyi – in the art gallery (1991), the Regional Universal
Scientific Library named after D.I.Chyzhevskyi (1998). O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum
(2002, 2011, 2014), the Regional Art Museum (2003, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2018), in other
cities – in Kyiv in the National Taras Shevchenko Museum (2010), in Guadalajara, Spain
(2004). The works by the artist are kept in the Directorate of the Exhibitions of the
Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum and O.O.Osmerkin
Art-Memorial Museum, Izmail and Pereyasliv-Khmelnytskyi Art Museum, private collections in
Ukraine and abroad.
In his creative work prefers realistic manner, artistic genres of still
life and landscape. Worked are made in pastose painting, which is a peculiar style of the
artist. At the current exhibition, more than thirty paintings created in different years
are shown; among them are picturesque town landscapes, filled with love for the unique
architecture of its historical center. The artist is called Poet of steppe rainbow because
his works are filled with colorful rainbow and impress viewers with the expression and
optimism.
Shapovalov Anatolii Havrylovych was born on January
11, 1949, in the village of Adzhamka, Kirovohrad district, Kirovohrad region.

Worked as a painter in Kirovohrad Art and Industrial Studios of the Art
Fund of Ukrainian SSR (1976-1997). A member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine
(2012). A laureate of the Regional Award in Fine Art and Study of Art named after
Oleksandr Osmerkin in the nomination “national tradition” (2014).
A participant of town, regional, all-Ukrainian, and foreign art
exhibitions, including – all-Ukrainian “Art-Kyiv” (2007), “Picturesque Ukraine”
(2009, 2019), “Artist Day 2009”, “Christmas-2011”, “Plein-air exhibition”
within the National Art Festival “Kropyvnytskyi” (2018) and foreign “Art Expo New
York” (2002). The artist’s paintings are presented at international art auctions
“Christie’s South Kensington. The Interiors Sales” in Great Britain (since 2006).
Personal exhibitions are constantly exhibited in the museum and galleries in Ukraine –
in Kropyvnytskyi (2009, 2011, 2014, 2019), Mykolaiv (2015), Odesa (2016), Sumy (2016),
Mariupil (2017), and also Great Britain in London (2016). The works are kept in Kirovohrad
Regional Art Museum, O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum, and the Museum of Musical Culture
named after K.Shymanovskyi in Kropyvnytskyi, private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
A theme range of the artist comprises genres of traditional classical
visual art – landscape, still life, portrait, genre painting made with a high level of
excellence. Landscape motifs of the Kirovohrad region are especially
worshiped. The compositions on everyday themes reproduce bright moments of modern life.
Very often, friends and family of the painter, the artist’s wife Tetiana and son Denys,
become the characters of the paintings. But the main topic of the paintings is his native
house in Adzhamka village, where he creates wonders of art. Washed out roads turn into
bright, colorful spring paintings, vegetables and pastry, plates and old jugs turn into
elegant, aristocratic, filled with the spirit of elevation still lifes. Flowers in his
works sound with cheerful music and fill with positive emotions allowing to live
unforgettable feelings of Ukrainian steppe scents. These more than 10 compositions are
exhibited at the current exhibition. |
