The Art School started its work in autumn in 1959. In 1992, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the artist and pedagogue the school was named after O.O.Osmerkin. Many of its graduates became famous artists, Merited Artists of Ukraine, laureates of the Regional Art Awards in Fine Art and Study of Art named after Oleksandr Osmerkin and in Architecture, Heraldry, and Vexillology, and Decorative and Applied Art named after Yakiv Pauchenko. But those who didn’t become artists and have chosen other professions preserved their love for creative work and fascination with visual art.
    Nowadays, a creative pedagogical staff is headed by the school director Hanna Tymofiienko. The experienced teachers, many of whom are the members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the National Union of Folk Art Artists of Ukraine, laureates of the Regional Art Awards in Fine Art and Study of Art named after Oleksandr Osmerkin share their knowledge in painting, drawing, sculpture, decorative art, and history of the world fine art. They preserve the basics of academic school and incorporate new forms of education that are adapted to the contemporary world.
    Pupils, and currently 350 children study at the school, are active participants and winners of the town, regional, all-Ukrainian, and international exhibitions and competitions, including the initiated by O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial museum together with Kirovohrad Regional Organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine with the support of the Department of Culture and Tourism of City Council of Kropyvnytskyi Art Competition to the International Children Day “Youth Palette” that is named after a famous artist and pedagogue, Merited Cultural Worker of Ukraine, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, laureate of the Regional Award in Fine Art and Study of Art named after Oleksandr Osmerkin in the nomination “national tradition” Leonid Ivanovych Bondar (1938 - 2013), who had been the director of Children Art School for more than 20 years.
    The jubilee exhibition shows 60 works by the pupils of different age categories and graduates of the last two years. The works were created under the supervision of the teachers of the school: Liubov Kyrianova, Ihor Smychek, Hanna Tymofiienko, Olena Pryimachenko, Tetiana Bondar, Svitlana Hnoieva, Oleksandra Kuznietsova, Ihor Tymofiienko, Dariia Aleksieienko, Oleksii Lozynskyi. The works of the pupils of the preparatory group supervised by the High-Achiever of Education of Ukraine Iryna Zantariia were shown for the first time.
    The theme exhibition represents only the portrait genre. The images of the contemporaries created in different art and decorative techniques – watercolors, gouache, pencil, gel ink pen, and also applique, fascinate with emotional character and peculiar features of the depicted faces. The artistic capabilities of the authors are expressed in each portrait of a mother, girlfriend, brother, or a friendly caricatures or fantastic masks of Picasso style. Creative individuals try to express their thoughts and feelings, fantasies and dreams, love to art, desire to the world and the Universe cognition.
    The peculiarity of the exhibition presentation was art workshops, when pupils worked at the easel and reproduced their fellow pupil teenager, who is a bright representative of a modern generation. The created portraits were added to the exposition of the exhibition at once.
