The artist implements traditions of Ukrainian carpet weaving into the modern living space with her work. She creates decorative compositions basing on the experience of prominent masters of carpet weaving from the Baroque epoch to nowadays. At first glimpse, simple subjects of her carpets such as flowers and trees, birds and animals, ornamental rows of meanders in the shape of waves or teeth bear the imprint of deep, full of cosmogenic symbols, ancient layers of Ukrainian culture. A figurative language of the compositions is characterized by bright decorativism, filled with signs, which became modern bearers of folk tradition. The dolls created in the author’s technique fascinate with monumentality. They are reflections of the artist’s world view on the possibility of preservation of historical memory through clothes forms and decor. While using simple, traditional techniques, improving, and seeking new technological approaches, Oleksandra Prenko speaks about the possibilities of implementation of special artistic features of carpet weaving to the new generation.
