A personal exhibition of works of the famous Kropyvnytskyi artist, Merited Artist of Ukraine Serhii Shapovalov “Pictorial impromptu of Serhii Shapovalov” was presented in O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum. The event was held within the museum project “In an artist’s studio” to Artist Day. The project is aimed at popularization of creative work of Ukrainian artists and presupposes organization of personal exhibitions and publication of catalogs with the interview and contemplations of artists about art and life, reproductions of works, which brightly represent their creative search.
    The exhibition consists of more than 30 paintings of different years starting from 1969 and till the present. The majority is exhibited for the first time.The exposition is completed with colored photos made by a famous photographer, a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Oleksandr Shuleshko from the series “Serhii Shapovalov’s Studio”.
    Shapovalov Serhii Havrylovych was born on May 15, 1943, in the village of Inhulo-Kamianka, Novhorodka district, the Kirovohrad Oblast. Merited Artist of Ukraine (2008). A member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1989). A laureate of the Regional Award in Fine Art and Study of Art named after Oleksandr Osmerkin in the nomination “national tradition” (2006). A laureate of the Municipal Art Award named after Borys Vintenko (2020).
Graduated from Kyiv State Art Institute, now the National Academy of Visual Art and Architecture, majoring in painting (1974), pedagogues are the People’s Artists of Ukraine T.M.Holembiievska, V.V.Shatalin. Worked as a painter in Kirovohrad art and industrial workshop of the Art Fund of Ukrainian SSR (1974-1989).

    Personal exhibitions in Kropyvnytskyi in the art gallery (1991), Regional Universal Scientific Library named after D.Chyzhevskyi (1998), O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum (2002, 2011, 2014, 2019), Regional Art Museum, now The Museum of Arts (2003, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2018), in Kyiv in the National Taras Shevchenko Museum (2010), in Guadalajara, Spain (2004). The works are kept in the Directorate of the Exhibitions of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Museum of Arts, and O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum in Kropyvnytskyi, Izmail and Pereyasliv-Khmelnytskyi Art Museums, private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
    In his creative work, prefers realistic manner of painting, still life and landscape; works are made in the technique of pastose painting that is the artist’s peculiar feature. The artist is often called a Poet of steppe rainbow because his works are filled with colorful rainbows and impress the viewers with the expressiveness of creation and incredible optimism.
