Kropyvnytskyi, as well as modern photo artists who have high professional
level in the sphere of photo art, create photo materials aimed at enriching
and preservation of historical heritage, coverage of the cultural, social,
and economic life of the town of Kropyvnytskyi and its citizens.
Journalist Day of Ukraine is a professional holiday for
journalists, correspondents, and reporters. It is celebrated according to
the Decree of the President of Ukraine from October 25, 1994, annually on
June 6. On this day in 1992, the Union of Journalists of Ukraine was
accepted to the International Federation of Journalists, which is the
largest world organization of professional media workers. The most effective
journalistic genre is considered photo reportage. Its peculiarities are
actuality, visualization, emotional intensity, and close link of the object
with the place and time of the shooting, integrity of perception of the
situation or event because it shares the story with the help of visual means.
The exhibition consists of thirty black and white photos
which were displayed in O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum at the exhibition
“Chronicle. Photos on the Pages of Newspapers” to Independence Day of
Ukraine, presented on August 20, 1988. The authors are famous press
photographers of then leading newspapers in Kirovohrad (now Kropyvnytskyi)
members of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Volodymyr
Reshetnykov and Oleh Shramko (“Kirovohradska Pravda”), Ihor Demchuk and
Oleksandr Shuleshko (“Narodne Slovo”), Oleksandr Kolomynov (“Vechirnia
Hazeta”), and Oleh Hryb “Ukraina-Tsentr”.
The majority of the photos are in the original framing from
the newspapers’ pages which accentuates the images captured by the reporters’
cameras. The scientific concept of the exhibition, developed by the leading
researcher of the museum Andrii Nadezhdin, now Merited Artist of Ukraine,
determined the way the photos were exhibited. Many photographs have author’s
titles which nowadays can be perceived in a symbolic way: “Running through
time”, “Toy for adults”, “Political passions”, “Harsh truth”, “To peace and
consent in Ukraine”.
The idea to present the exhibition online on the museum
website is aimed at the recreation of retrospection of the 1990s events and
express respect, acknowledgment, and fascination to the authors of the
newspaper photos by their professionalism. Many of them have become
laureates of the Regional Award among Journalists in the nomination
“photojournalism” and the Town Award among the Photo Artists named after
Vasyl Kovpak, and Ihor Demchuk was awarded a high National Rank “Merited
Journalist of Ukraine”.
The exhibition is completed with archive materials from the
museum collection – invitations to the exhibition opening with the
signatures of its participants and the newspapers “Kirovohradska Pravda” and
“Narodne Slovo” with the reports covering the event. |
