Art Lectures “Abstractions in Works of Fellow Artists”


    On November 26, 2020, traditional “Art lectures to the anniversary of O.O.Osmerkin” was held in O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum. The topic of the lectures was “Abstractions in works of fellow artists”.
    Due to the lockdown and restrictions on mass events, the scientific and educational project was held online without the participants. All the research papers with illustrations are available on the museum website in the section Some Events.
The topic of this year “Art Lectures” is not a coincidence. Oleksandr Osmerkin wrote in his memoirs: “I have made the whole path of analytical search in painting. It was about impressionism, Cubism, etc.” The research papers “Oleksandr Osmerkin in the art life of Kyiv in the beginning of 1910th. Shaping of creative outlook” prepared by the leading researcher of the museum, art historian, and Merited Artist of Ukraine Andrii Nadezhdin and “Influence of new tendencies of the European painting of the late 19th – early 20th centuries on the early creative work of Oleksandr Osmerkin” prepared by the chief curator of the Museum of Music Art named after Karol Szymanowski, a well-known local history expert Olena Klassova touch upon art searches of the outstanding master of painting Oleksandr Osmerkin at the start of his creative work.
    The students of Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Vynnychenko supervised by the Ph.D. in Art History, associate professor of the Sub department of Visual Art and Design Olena Kyrychenko prepared the research report “Visual language of abstract form in the topics and images of the artists of Kirovohrad region”. The report highlights the work of the modern artists of Kirovohrad region – the People’s Artist of Ukraine Mykhailo Nadezhdin, Merited Artist of Ukraine Nataliia Fedorenko, Hryhorii Hnatiuk, and Andrii Nadezhdin, members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Ihor Smychek, Fedir Lahno, Andrii Khvorost, and Olha Punhina, painter Volodymyr Ostroukhov whose works are characterized by objectlessness, absolutization of impression and self-expression through geometric figures, lines, and colored spots.
    Many fans of abstract painting will discover a lot of interesting facts in art researches about the graduates of Dnipropetrovsk State Art College named after Yevhen Vuchetych, currently members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Oksana Zhuravel (Nadezhdina) and Volodymyr Tovkailo.
    The report “Abstract world of the paintings by Oksana Zhuravel (Nadezhdina)” prepared by her brother Andrii Ndezhdin tells about the peculiarities of the individual art style of the artist from the talented Nadezhdin family and her works of non-figurative art which states the concepts of free creative search and are associative and symbolic perception of the images of the present.
    The report “Symbols of the paintings by Volodymyr Tovkailo” by a young artist who is actively involved in pedagogical activity as the head of the Department of Visual Art in Children School of Arts in Kropyvnytskyi Olha Krasnopolska is characterized by extraordinary artistic point of view on the work of Volodymyr Tovkailo from the town of Svitlovodsk who is considered a representative of symbolic and philosophical school in Ukrainian painting.
    The majority of the artists whose work became the subject of the research by the participants of “Art Lectures” are the laureates of the Regional Award in Fine Art and Study of Art named after Oleksandr Osmerkin in the nomination “modern tendencies”.
