Architectural works of Yakiv Pauchenko on postage stamps

   On February 27, 2014 postage stamps, which represent Kirovohrad region on the occasion of 75th anniversary of its foundation, were introduced and became valid for payment for mail services in all departments of mail service.It is a postage stamp block “Beauty and greatness of Ukraine. Kirovohrad region”, which consists of four stamps: “Holy Ascension Cathedral (Bobrynets)” – orthodox cathedral, listed building of the late XIX – early XX century; “Anthropomorphous stele of Scythian period”; “Kirovohrad Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre named after M.L.Kropyvnytskyi”, which is a successor of a famous Theatre of coryphaei, which existed in the town till the revolution, and nowadays piously preserves the memory of prominent figures of Ukrainian theatre; “People’s choreographic group “Prolisok” – choreographic group of folk dance of Kirovohrad regional general educational institution complex of academic and aesthetic typeand a postage stamp “Kirovohrad. Gymnasium-boarding school-school of arts” with the image of a listed building of the late XIX century – theatre “Illusion” upon the project of the architect YakivPauchenko, where now Kirovohrad regional general educational institution complex of academic and aesthetic type is located.
   Presentation and cancellation of postage stamp block and postage stamp took place exactly in this educational institution headed by a famous choreographer and pedagogue, People’s Artist of Ukraine Anatolii Korotkov. The cancellation was made with a specially created unique art stamp, which can be used only on the first day of putting the postage stamps into operation, on the first day covers within the series of postal stamps “Beauty and greatness of Ukraine” initiated last year by Ukrposhta. The aim of the series of postal stamps is to present historical, cultural, architectural and spiritual monuments of our State.
   A historical note about a well-known Elisavethrad architect Yakiv Pauchenko is given on one of the jubilee envelope. He was destined to be the one of those architects who created an inimitable modern architectural ensemble of the historic centre of Elisavethrad (Kirovohrad) with wonderful buildings, which are now the jewels of the region. It is 100th anniversary of Yakiv Pauchenko’s death this year in October. And the issue of the postage stamp and stamp block, where architectural gems of Kirovohrad region, built upon his projects, are depicted, is a deserved honouring of the architect. By the way, Ukrposhta issued an art stamped envelope with a portrait of Ya.Pauchenko against the background of his house and made a special cancellation in 2006 to the 140th anniversary of the architect. Now there is O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum in the architect’s house.
   The postage stamp block as a philatelic souvenir in honour of a memorable event was issued for the first time in Kirovohrad region. The block of postage stamp and the postage stamp were printed at State Enterprise “Printing plant “Ukraine” for the production of securities”. The number of copies of the postage stamp block is 47 000 copies, and of postage stamps – 155 000. The design of the postage stamps and the postage stamp block was created by an artist Oleksander Kalmykov.
