The exhibition presents works of a famous Kirovohrad artist a member of the
National Union of Artists of Ukraine I.Smychek within a framework of the initiated by the
museum art project of a series of art exhibitions “Laureates of Regional Award in fine
arts and study of art named after Olexander Osmerkin”.
Smychek Ihor Volodymyrovych was born on November 24, 1953 in Kirovohrad. A
member of the National Union of Artists of the USSR (1987), a member of the National Union
of Artists of Ukraine (1994).

Graduated from Odessa State Art College named after M.Hrekov (1973), Lviv Polygraphic
Institute named after I.Fedorov (Ukrainian Academy of Printing) (1981),
teachers:V.Ovchhynnykov, Yu.Charyshnikov. Works as a teacher in Kirovohrad children’s
art school named after O.O.Osmerkin.
Graphic artist and painter. A participant of all-USSR, national, regional, group and
personal art exhibitions.
Author of design and illustrations of more than 20 books. In 1980s the artist
effectively cooperated with publishing houses of Kishinev (Moldova) and Lviv where such
books were printed: “Dead souls” by M.Hohol, “PippiLongstocking” by A.Lindgren,
“Gold field” by M.Pryshvin, “Colourful fairy-tales” by I.Ziedonis, “Moldavian
folk tales”. In Kirovohrad publishing houses were printed poetic collections “Understanding
of history” by V.Shylo (1998) and “Harvest festival” by V.Mohyluk (2004), narrative
“The Cross-Paths” By I.Franko (2000), unique album on history of theatre of coryphaeus
“Theatre of Mark Kropyvnytskyi – the past and the present” (author – V.Shurapov,
2001).
The works are kept in the funds of Directorate of exhibitions of the Ministry
of Culture of Ukraine, Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum, O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum,
private collections. His compositions are notable for decorativity of the artistic
language and are full of romantic mood.
More than 30 works of the recent years are shown at the current exhibition.
